Why I support McCain & Palin

This is not a political blog…
Not by any means. Honestly, I have never written about anyone running for office in my life! Quite honestly, I never really cared. But a few things this week kind of changed my mind and It got me thinking.
Last week while filing a few papers in charts (story of my life) I was talking with one of the nurses that was there. She was talking to someone about Obama, and I chimed in, "ughhhh…I don’t know but I just don’t like that guy."
This kind of upset her and she started in with, " why don’t you like him? He is a good man…I want to finally be able to vote for who I can identify with…"
Blah, blah, blah on and on she went…
I didn’t say anything really, just kind of let her go on. I was kicking myself in the ass for mentioning it in the first place. I know better then to talk about politics and religion at work. People are very passionate about that stuff and it can get ya in a world of trouble! Not to mention a heated debate!
The one thing I did say to her was, "I am dirt poor - and I still do not want Obama as my next president…you do NOT have to "be poor or rich" to vote for who you want."
So what got me thinking…?
I started thinking about what she said and one part kept eating away at me. "I want to finally vote for someone I can identify with."
Identify - that was the key word here.
In all honesty - this nurse is an awful nurse. My department has the hardest time communicating with her. She is lazy. She does not have that "caring" attitude. Documentation is never done. If I tell her something about a resident she will yes me to death - and then does nothing about it. She is written up all the time for her attitude, wounds have gone untreated for hours…etc…She does not know how to effectively "run" a floor. She borders on "abusive" when she talks to the residents. And to be 100% blunt - she smells bad.
I do not know why - but I do not think she has seen a stick of deodorant in her life. Maybe it is her "culture" or what not. Maybe she is allergic…who knows. But no one can really get too close to her because your eyes will burn..
Now, to be fair here - in "general" she is a nice person. She can be pleasant and once in a while, funny too. Maybe she is just totally burnt out as a nurse, Maybe she was really never taught how to do things properly. I really do not know. All I know is she actually kinda helped me to decide who I want as my next President.
"I want to finally vote for someone I can identify with."
Off to his website…
So, I went to the McCain website last night and read. I actually found myself reading most all of it.
There were actually a lot of different issues that I agreed on. and some I do not. For one - I am pro choice. I believe that it is a woman’s right to have children and her choice if she wishes to terminate her pregnancy. But at the same time - I do not think that women should be careless and NOT use protection.
Some like The war in Iraq and Healthcare issues are big with me. There have been nurses at my work that have had to leave work to "go to war" and that really hits home when you see that.
But I do understand that we cannot just pull out of Iraq because everything with end up the way it was before. As much as it sucks, it has to be finished.
For some reason, I just feel "safer" with him as President. I don’t get a bad, gut wrenching feeling. With Obama I do. I don’t know what it is - but I just can’t put my finger on it.
Will I vote…?
Honestly, I do not know. I have never been in a voting booth in my life. Never cared about it before. I registered to vote - years ago, but never did anything with it. I still have a lot to learn and I have not really read all that much on Sarah Palin. That will be the next site I will be reading today.
Maybe it’s because I am getting older now. Maybe it’s because of the nurse at work. I’m not really sure. But for some reason - I care who the hell gets in there.
"I want to finally vote for someone I can identify with."
I want that too. And quite honestly, I cannot identify with her - or Obama. I love the residents. I hug them, I help them, I speak to them with respect. I do my job and I do it as best as I can.In a nutshell - I care.
Oh, and I don’t smell bad either…
Unless of course I eat a huge friggin burrito…
Now THAT is another story all together kids.

** Just another ugly, cynical selection **
Palin is as cynical a choice for VP as Clarence Thomas was for the Supreme Court. And for exactly the same reason.
Thomas would never grow into the shoes of Thurgood Marshall. He was chosen as an African American of the far right who would trample the hard won gains of the civil rights era.
Palin is a few feet shy of the stature to take over the presidency. She was chosen as a woman of the far right who would trample the hard won gains in women’s and children’s rights.
Both of them are small human beings, intellectually and morally. Her xianity is a dishonest ersatz for foreign and public policy.
McCain’s calculated cynicism at the same times betrays his lack of judgment and his essentially frivolous nature. He finally capitulated to the death impulse of the christo-fascists (dominionists) who now control his party. Those who look forward with glee to nuclear Armageddon in the middle east.
Now, the choice is stark. McPain and a continued assault on the Constitution by ignorant, arrogant “servants” of an imperial presidency. Or, Obama-Biden and a chance to undo the harm suffered by the Republic from the Bush-Cheney thugs.

Bipolar2, That’s quite an interesting name.
Thanks so much for commenting on my blog. It’s good to know that new people are still reading my blog from time to time!
I really think it’s amazing how so many people have so many differences of opinion when it comes to religious & political matters.
Learn about Palin from an Alaskan point of view.

Emperor, Thanks for the link. I will be sure to check it out!
Hi Simple-Mindz,
I enjoyed reading your post and the comment above mine. I find it extremely interesting that many of the Obama supporters enjoy throwing insults at their opponents. Why is that necessary?
I’m a moderate and agree more with McCain than I do with Obama, does that mean that Bipolar is going to insult me as well. I be he/she does.
Obama talks with nothing substantial to back it up but McCain has history. If Obama wins Bipolar will be on here commenting in a year and bitching about the high taxes.
Very predictable!

Hey Greg!
Good to hear from you again.Honestly, I was thinking the same thing. I decided to stay quiet & not comment with regards to that topic because I figured it would just start a bitchfest.
But since we are on that subject…
I’m with you for the same reason. Originally I was voting for Ron Paul but now that Alabama and Bi den(Please see explanation below) are the ticket I will have to once again vote against the worst qualified. Never could stand Bi den (Spell check) and it goes to show you it’s the same old democratic machine. Alabama( I’m sorry I went with the spell check choice that sounded closest) even took them poor fools money and gave it to Hillary to “pay” herself back for all the “loans” she made to her campaign. Face it, we haven’t had a true conservative in the White House since Reagan and even he caved in too often to Tip O’Neil. Can anyone remember the last time the size of the federal government actually SHRANK? I’m talking shrinkage here, not just freezing it at it’s current size but actually making it and it’s tentacles smaller. Reducing it’s carbon footprint if you will. A leaner greener government.
Gotta Loooovvve the spell check.
Dad, Great name!
(Was very strange to type out since my own dad has been gone many years!)
I guess we gotta just pick the lesser of the two evils when you really come down to it, huh…
I really cannot remember when the good ol gov was smaller in size. It’s a shame, really.
I enjoyed reading your post. I am on the McCain/Palin side as well. I am (I think) more pro-choice than not but certainly not to the point of partial birth abortions, and definitely not in favor of leaving a baby born in a botched abortion to die. So when heard Obama favored that, it made my decision so much easier. Think I agree with your ’safer’ comment, too. Not sure why exactly but just feel ’safer.’ And I so want to be done in Iraq but think the pull-out needs to be a well-thought plan and not just done in haste.
Aimee (journey2learn)s last blog post..Can’t SLEEP!
Aimee, Thanks for your comment. I agree. This war does need to be stopped - but to just pull all the troops out now would be an awful move. It needs to be done slowly - and after we have called victory.
never…talk… politics.. with friends…
must.. resist.. impulse… gah!!!!!
Cinnkittys last blog post..I ain’t your Bee-yotch….bitch!
Cinn, LOL - sorry hun….could - not - resist….
You caved in! Lol. I am trying my hardest not to talk about the upcoming election but man is it hard when it is all over the place.
One thing I have learned and something you hear all the time is that there will never be a “perfect” candidate. There will always be things that you don’t agree with but you vote for the one most like you. So with that said, Give voting a try. If nothing else to try and prevent an increase in taxes. We can’t lose any more businesses to other countries.

Catherine, Yup. I did. I just can’t stand to keep my mouth shut sometimes! Gets me in all sorta trouble..lol
Best to you and dealing with the smelly woman in your work place. But just because she smells bad and has an attitude, doesn’t mean Obama does, too.
Seamless,
LOL@ comment. That was funny. While this is very true - I meet a lot of people that have the attitude she has, and they are actually Obama supporters. It’s kind of a “woe is me” attitude.
It’s interesting that when a country only has two electable parties, it’s impossible to find one party or candidiate that embodies all your ideas and beliefs. So, you pick the one that will take care of your most important issues. I am for the McCain/Palin ticket mainly because I actually want great-quality health care for all citizens and that can only be achieved if we have a market-driven system. I also want to live in a safe, secure place and McCain has shown the knowledge and the sensibilities to handle this best. I, too, am pro-choice and believe same-sex partners should have all rights (and responsibilites) married couples receive. Once McCain’s is in office and I feel safe and have decent health care, then we can challenge the social issues and figure out incentives so the wealthy can help more people get health care.
Beth, Sorry - I would have replied earlier, but I did not realize you commented! I too want great healthcare. It’s expensive, especially in Mass here.
I have “Government” healthcare and I STILL cannot afford the payments each month! But yet - we HAVE to have it?
