Well, I guess it was inevitable. And I kinda had a sinking feeling that it would happen.
That does not help with the fact that I am sad about Jacq’s passing. I knew, when I got home yesterday, that she was sad. She jumped onto my finger and did not want to leave my side. She kept crawling up to my neckline and nuzzling. When I put her in her cage a few hours later - I noticed that she was at the bottom of her cage.
Birds, very rarely go to the bottom of their cages to “sleep.” They like to be up high.
So, usually when you see a bird at the bottom they are as good as dead. Or they are super sick. Birds also hide their sickness until they are so close to death, by the time they actually show their sickness - it’s too late

Jacq and I though - we had a special bond. I was there when Sam and Madelynne (her mommy) hatched her. When Jacq was a tiny, ugly little birdie - with no feathers - we would lie on the couch together and “Napie.”
She was born around Christmas time, and the only lil one that made it. The other two her sister/brother did not.
I really wanted her to be hand fed/trained and she was.
But boy - she could be a real bi^ch when she was cranky! And bite! Boy could she bite when she was in a bad mood. lol.
I suppose it was for the best. She would have been miserable without Sam. But - her mommy misses her today.
I am glad that we were able to spend our time together yesterday and the day before. At least she knew she was loved.

Goodbye Jacq.
Friends to the end.

So sad to hear about your loss! I had a cockatiel that I loved dearly but eventually had to give him up because I couldn’t take him to college with me and my parents were not around enough to take care of him. It felt like he died the night I had to give him away to someone else, he was so sad.
May your birds rest in peace together.

Nathan, Thank you very much. I know how you feel when it comes to giving up pets too. I had to give up my dogs in 2002. Was awful hard time for me.

Wow, sad time in your household. I used to have birds, and it was always so sad when one would die. I HATED seeing them on the bottom of the cage. Because then I knew it was soon.

I’m so sorry for your loss! As a “mom” to birds of my own I can totally understand that bond.
Erica, Thank you. What type of birds do you have?

I am so sorry about the loss of your feathered friends, I have a cockatiel and he’s a very special bird. Have you ever had other kinds of birds? Cockatiels have a longer life span than parakeets. I just lost my 14 year old Himalayan cat just over a month ago and it was really hard on me. I am such an animal lover, I love all kinds of animals!
Roxx, Thank you very much. I have had cockatiels, conures lovebirds, finches, and even a Cockatoo. Most were just going from one home to another, and I was the “go between” person.

Oh no! I was hoping you’d have better news like you bought a new friend for jacq not this. Glad you got to spend some time with her though. Its funny how pets let you know when they are about to go. My cat did the same thing. He really bonded with me a few days before he passed. kinda like he knew it was coming.

i have had a ton of budgies- have a ton of them right now, as a matter of fact. they are the best little creatures, but the breeding is so abominable that terrible inherited health conditions are extremely common. really, the factory production of baby budgies makes puppy mills look good by comparison.
misanthropope, They are awesome little birdies! I actually still miss my lil lady. I still sometimes catch myself looking over in the corner where their cage was.
I agree with you with the breeding of these little guys. I am wondering if regulations are not as strict as they are with the bigger birds?
