Goodnight Sam. You will be missed.

Was a sad time in Simple Mindz household a few hours ago.

I went to cover up my two parakeets “Jacq & Sam” for the night and I noticed Sam was at the bottom of the cage, dead. I was sad, but honestly not too surprised because I actually thought he was dead yesterday! I have this knack for just “knowing” when my birds are going to die.

bird,parakeet,death,dying

As soon as I went over to the cage and opened it up - Jacq jumped right on my finger - eager to get the hell outta there as she had been hanging with a dead bird body for a bit. She kinda seemed a bit spooked and I think she was also a bit sad.

I told her I was sorry, and offered my condolences and told her she could hang out with me. She did.

She sat on my shoulder while I “prepared” (read- rolled in paper towel and bagged.) Sam’s body for burial at “The Trash Cemetary.”

I think she was having a bit of a hard time “letting go” though, and before I put Sam in the bag, she jumped on his casket.

I gently explained to her that sometimes when a parent/boyfriend dies…it can be very hard to understand. And also that Sam loved her very much and it was his time to go. Afterall, he was almost 4 years old. That’s a lot for a keet.

She seemed to listen, and was understanding a bit better after having explained it to her.

After all was said and done, We went upstairs and took a shower together. She seemed to really enjoy the water and was really feeling quite relaxed after her much needed shower.

After that, we went downstairs where I placed her in her cage and covered it for the night. I think my little lady will be ok. As long as she does not die of a broken heart.

Here is a picture of Jacq & Sam together. Happier times..
